Sorbitol 70% a Versatile Ingredient

Sorbitol, a derivative of Starch is extensively used by toothpaste manufacturers, Cosmetics industry, Paint manufacturers and Pharmaceuticals across the world. Its qualities include that it is a water-soluble polyhydric alcohol and is an excellent humectants, texturizing and anti-crystallizing agent.

Sorbitol is obtained by reduction of glucose, changing the aldehyde group to a hydroxyl group. It provides bulk, smooth mouth-feel, cool and pleasant taste and is non-toxic, non-irritant, stable and chemically inert. It has one-third fewer calories than sugar. Sorbitol finds its applications in different industries like:

  •  It can be used as a sugar substitute and bonding agent and is often used in diet foods, mints, sugar-free candies and baked foods.
  •  It is often used in cosmetics like Face creams, Lotions, etc as a humectants and thickener. It is added to soaps, especially transparent glycerin bar soaps.
  •  It is also used in Pharma Industries.
  •  It is widely used in various other industries like Paper for increasing the flexibility, Tobacco wherein it gives mild aromatic fumes when smoked.
  • Paint Industry uses Sorbitol to manufacture alkyd resin, used as binder.
